Effective from January 2026, the RiderNav R7M no longer includes a pre-installed SD card with the device.
Before January 2026: All R7M units shipped with a pre-installed 8GB SD card
From January 2026 onwards: R7M units ship without an SD card
If you purchased your R7M device after January 2026 and notice there is no SD card installed, this is normal and not a defect.
Do I Need an SD Card?
The R7M does not have a dashcam/recording function, so the SD card is only used for OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates.
You can use your R7M without an SD card for daily navigation and all core functions. An SD card is only required when performing system updates.
Installing Your Own SD Card
If you wish to install an SD card for future firmware updates:
Step 1: Open the SD Card Slot
Use the screwdriver included in your R7M package
Locate the SD card slot cover on the side of the device
Carefully unscrew the cover
Step 2: Insert the SD Card
Purchase a compatible SD card (see recommendations below)
Insert the SD card into the slot
Replace and secure the cover
Step 3: Recommended SD Card Specifications
Capacity: 8GB (recommended)
Type: microSD card
Class: Class 10 or higher
Why 8GB is Enough
Since the R7M does not have a dashcam or video recording feature, the SD card is only used for storing firmware update files. An 8GB card provides more than sufficient space for this purpose.
