R7M SD Card Policy Update (Effective January 2026)

Starting January 2026, RiderNav R7M devices will no longer ship with a pre-installed SD card.

Updated over a week ago

What’s changing

  • Before January 2026: Every R7M unit included a pre-installed 8GB SD card.

  • From January 2026 onward: R7M units do not include an SD card from the factory.

This change is due to a significant increase in SD card sourcing costs. To keep the product offering sustainable, we have stopped pre-installing SD cards and customers will purchase one as needed.

What this means for you

  • If you bought an R7M after January 2026 and there is no SD card installed, this is normal and not a defect.

  • You can use your R7M for daily navigation and all core functions without an SD card.

  • An SD card is only required for OTA (Over-The-Air) system updates, and you’ll need to purchase and install one separately.

Installing Your Own SD Card

If you wish to install an SD card for future firmware updates:

Step 1: Open the SD Card Slot

  • Use the screwdriver included in your R7M package

  • Locate the SD card slot cover on the side of the device

  • Carefully unscrew the cover

Step 2: Insert the SD Card

  • Purchase a compatible SD card (see recommendations below)

  • Insert the SD card into the slot

  • Replace and secure the cover

Step 3: Recommended SD Card Specifications

  • Capacity: 32GB (recommended)

  • Type: microSD card

  • Class: Class 10 or higher

Why 8-32GB is Enough

Since the R7M does not have a dashcam or video recording feature, the SD card is only used for storing firmware update files. An 8-32GB card provides more than sufficient space for this purpose.
