Some users may notice that when using Google Maps with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, a route selected as “Motorcycle” on the phone may switch to “Car” mode after being projected to the RiderNav display.
This is not a defect of the RiderNav display.
RiderNav display works as an external CarPlay / Android Auto display. It receives and displays the navigation data sent by your smartphone and navigation app. It does not control or modify Google Maps’ route calculation, vehicle type, or transportation mode.
Google Maps may default the route to Car Mode within the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto interface, even if Motorcycle mode was selected on the phone. This is related to how Google Maps works through CarPlay or Android Auto, which are primarily designed for standard vehicle interfaces.
As a hardware display, RiderNav cannot override the settings or routing behavior of third-party apps such as Google Maps.
What should riders do?
To ensure safer motorcycle-specific routing and avoid restricted roads or highways, we recommend the following:
You may consider using navigation apps that are specifically designed for motorcycle riding and may offer better motorcycle route planning support within CarPlay or Android Auto, such as Scenic, Calimoto, Kurviger, or other rider-focused navigation apps available in your region.
If you prefer to use Google Maps, please always preview the generated route on the RiderNav display before setting off to confirm that it has not routed you onto roads that are unsuitable or prohibited for motorcycles.
⚠️ Safety Notice: Before following any route, please always confirm whether the road is suitable and legally accessible for motorcycles. Navigation apps may not always reflect local motorcycle restrictions accurately.
If the route shown on the RiderNav display does not match the motorcycle route selected on your phone, please do not rely on that route until it has been verified.
