Android Auto Audio on RiderNav Displays (R7M / R7X)

RiderNav Display has no built-in speaker and does not produce audio by itself. It is a display/interface for Android Auto; audio ultimately comes from your phone and is delivered to your helmet headset through the required routing.

Why Android Auto audio setup is different from CarPlay

Android Auto on RiderNav requires a specific audio routing architecture. Unlike CarPlay (where pairing your headset to the phone is usually enough), Android Auto audio on RiderNav Displays relies on a dual-channel Bluetooth headset/intercom to make voice navigation and media work correctly.

How Audio Routing Works (Android Auto) - Dual-channel headset pairing

a) Pair Headset to RiderNav

  • On RiderNav: Bluetooth Settings → select your headset → confirm pairing

b) Pair Headset to Android Phone

  1. On phone: Settings → Bluetooth → select your headset

  2. Ensure permissions are enabled: Phone Calls / Media Audio / Contact Sharing

Google Assistant Voice Control (What to Expect)

Once your headset is connected to RiderNav, Google Assistant is available during Android Auto sessions—but “Hey Google” wake word support depends on your headset model, not the RiderNav display.

Headset Compatibility:

Supports "Hey Google" Wake Word:

  • Cardo communication systems (Packtalk, Freecom series)

  • Sena 50S/50R models

Manual Activation Only:

  • Sena SRL series – Requires pressing phone button for 4 seconds; does not respond to "Hey Google"

Why Voice Activation May Seem Inconsistent:

When stationary with your engine off, your phone's built-in microphone may pick up "Hey Google" commands even from inside a tank bag—creating the false impression that your headset triggered the assistant. Once riding with engine noise and wind, this ambient activation becomes unreliable.

Recommendation: Verify Google Assistant voice wake-word support with your specific headset manufacturer before relying on hands-free activation while riding.

Common Limitation (Android Auto)

Unlike CarPlay, Android Auto on RiderNav display does not support SMS/text message notifications or readback on the display (platform limitation).

Troubleshooting: No Voice Guidance / No Audio

If navigation shows on screen but you hear nothing

  • Confirm the headset is paired to both RiderNav and your phone (dual-channel)

  • On your phone’s Bluetooth device details, ensure Media Audio is enabled

  • Disconnect other Bluetooth audio devices to avoid routing conflicts

  • Test by playing music directly from the phone (to confirm headset output)
