Google Assistant must be enabled on your phone first. Your headset microphone then captures your voice and sends it to the phone, where Assistant processes the command.
In short: Phone runs Google Assistant → Headset provides the mic/audio path → RiderNav Display is the Android Auto screen.
Compatibility Requirements (Must Read)
1) Your headset must support dual Bluetooth channels
For Android Auto riding setups, your headset/intercom typically needs dual Bluetooth channels (also called multipoint / dual pairing) because:
Android Auto audio requires
Headset ↔ Phone
Headset ↔ RiderNav Display
This is a headset capability. Please contact your headset brand to confirm your exact model supports two simultaneous Bluetooth connections.
2) Wake method depends on headset model (not all support “Hey Google”)
Different headsets support different ways to activate Google Assistant. Some models support the wake phrase “Hey Google”, while others require a manual button press.
Here are common examples:
❌ Limited voice wake support
Sena SRL Series: does not support “Hey Google” wake phrase
You must activate Assistant manually by pressing and holding the Phone button for ~4 seconds
✅ Full voice wake support
Cardo communication systems: supports direct “Hey Google” activation
Sena 50S / 50R: supports direct “Hey Google” activation
Not Sure About Your Model?
The most reliable source is your headset manufacturer. Please ask them to confirm:
Whether your model supports dual Bluetooth channels / multipoint
Whether it supports “Hey Google” wake-word activation, or the required manual activation method
Why Voice Commands May Work Inconsistently
Engine Off Scenario:
Your phone's built-in microphone is highly sensitive when stationary. Even if stored in a tank bag or jacket pocket, it may pick up "Hey Google" commands—creating the impression that your headset is triggering the assistant when it's actually your phone responding directly.
While Riding:
Engine noise, wind, and road vibration typically prevent your phone's microphone from detecting voice commands. If your headset lacks native Google Assistant support, voice activation becomes unreliable or impossible during active riding.
