How to Update R7M Firmware (OTA)

Updated over a week ago

Quick Overview

The RiderNav R7M supports over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates to keep your device running smoothly with the latest features and improvements.

Current Firmware Version: 1.2.6

⚠️ Important Warning

Do NOT use the USB-C port on the back of the R7M.

  • This port is for factory technician use only

  • Removing screws to access it will compromise water resistance

  • Internal damage from unauthorized access is NOT covered under warranty

  • Always use OTA updates via Wi-Fi

Before You Update

Make sure you have:

  • ✅ R7M mounted on BMW Nav Prep

  • ✅ Motorcycle ignition ON

  • ✅ Stable Wi-Fi connection (mobile hotspot works)

  • SD Card Required: Please use your own microSD card (capacity between 8GB and 32GB is recommended for optimal compatibility). Insert it into the slot on the right side of your R7M device.

How to Update

  1. Check for Updates
Go to Settings > System Update and tap Check for Updates. The system will automatically detect if a new version is available.

  2. Download Update
If a new version is found, tap Update Now to begin downloading.

  3. Installation
Once the download is complete, the R7M will automatically install and restart. Do not power off the device during this process.

  4. Completion
After installation, the system will display a success message. If the system shows "Already up to date," no further action is needed.

Important Notes

  • SD Card Required for OTA: To perform OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, an SD card must be inserted into the device.

  • Recommendation: We recommend using a high-quality microSD card with a capacity between 8GB and 32GB (formatted to FAT32).

  • Note: Please ensure the SD card is properly inserted into the slot on the right side of the R7M before starting the update process.

  • Power Stability: Keep the motorcycle running throughout the update to prevent interruption.

  • Update Failure: If an update fails due to power loss or SD card issues, please contact customer support for assistance.Need Help?
