Does the RiderNav Display Require an Internet Connection?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The RiderNav Display itself does not require a constant internet connection for daily use. Navigation and connectivity are provided through your smartphone via CarPlay or Android Auto.

How It Works:

Daily Use - No Internet Required from RiderNav

The RiderNav Display functions as a smart display that mirrors your phone's screen and apps. All navigation, mapping data, and internet connectivity come directly from your paired smartphone through CarPlay or Android Auto. This means:

  • Your phone provides the data connection for navigation

  • The RiderNav Display uses your phone's GPS and mobile data

  • No SIM card or built-in mobile data is needed in the RiderNav Display

  • No Wi-Fi connection is required during rides

When Wi-Fi IS Required:

The RiderNav Display only needs a temporary Wi-Fi connection for:

  1. Initial Device Activation - When setting up your RiderNav Display for the first time

  2. OTA Firmware Updates - To download and install the latest software updates and features

These are one-time or occasional processes that can be completed at home or any location with Wi-Fi access.

Bottom Line: Once activated, your RiderNav Display works entirely through your smartphone's connection. As long as your phone has mobile data and GPS enabled, you're ready to navigate without any additional internet requirements from the RiderNav Display itself.
