The Big Picture
Your Q5 Pro is built to be low-maintenance. IP68 sealing, high-grade materials, and vibration-tested hardware mean the system asks very little of you between rides.
But like any precision equipment on a motorcycle, a few small habits go a long way. This guide covers the entire care lifecycle: after each ride, weekly, seasonally, and for long-term storage — all designed to keep your spotlights delivering the same performance on year five that they gave you on day one.
You won't find complicated procedures here. If you can rinse a bike and wipe down a lens, you can maintain a Q5 Pro.
1. After Every Ride — 30 Seconds of Care
The most important maintenance habit is also the simplest. After each ride, especially in wet, dusty, or salted conditions:
Rinse the lens with clean water. Use gentle pressure — a garden hose or spray bottle is perfect. This removes abrasive particles like dust, sand, road grit, and dried insect residue before they have a chance to settle.
Let it air dry, or gently pat dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Never dry-wipe a dusty lens — particles trapped between the cloth and glass can cause micro-scratches that accumulate over time and gradually reduce optical clarity.
Skip this step only when: the ride was fully in dry, clean conditions and the lens is visibly free of debris.
That's it. Thirty seconds after each ride keeps your lens in excellent shape indefinitely.
2. Weekly — The Full Clean
Once a week (or after any particularly intense ride), give your Q5 Pro a proper clean.
What You'll Need
A soft microfiber cloth (dedicated to the lens — don't use one you've used on the bike's chain or wheels)
Clean water
A neutral-pH cleaner (motorcycle-safe glass cleaner is ideal)
A soft-bristle detail brush for hardware crevices
The Process
Step 1 — Rinse first. Never apply a cloth to a dry, dirty lens. Give it a water rinse to loosen everything first.
Step 2 — Apply cleaner sparingly. A small amount of neutral cleaner on the microfiber cloth, then wipe the lens in slow, circular motions with light pressure.
Step 3 — Rinse again. Remove any cleaner residue with clean water.
Step 4 — Dry with a fresh microfiber cloth. Pat, don't scrub.
Step 5 — Inspect. Take 10 seconds to look for any chips, cracks, or unusual marks on the lens surface. Catching damage early is always cheaper than dealing with it later.
Step 6 — Wipe down the housing and mounting hardware. A slightly damp cloth is enough. Check that all bolts are still firm — vibration can slowly loosen fasteners over thousands of kilometers.
3. What to Avoid — The Short List
A few things will damage your Q5 Pro. All are easy to avoid:
❌ Harsh chemical solvents — Acetone, alcohol-based cleaners, ammonia glass cleaners, oven cleaners, or degreasers. These can etch the lens, damage seals, or attack the housing's anodized finish.
❌ Abrasive materials — Steel wool, scouring pads, paper towels (they're more abrasive than they look), or any cloth that's been used with polishing compounds.
❌ High-pressure washers at close range — While the Q5 Pro is IP68-rated, direct high-pressure blast at the lens seal or cable entries is asking too much. Keep pressure washers at least 30 cm away and avoid aiming directly at seals.
❌ Automotive polishing compounds — These are designed for painted surfaces, not optical glass. They can leave microscopic residue that scatters light and reduces beam clarity.
❌ Clear protective films or "screen protectors" — Any adhesive film on the lens will trap heat from the LED and degrade over time, potentially damaging the lens surface underneath.
❌ Dry-wiping a dusty lens — Always rinse first. This single habit prevents more lens damage than any other.
4. Seasonal Care — Every 3 to 6 Months
A few extra checks every quarter or two will catch small issues before they become big ones.
Mounting Hardware
Motorcycle vibration is relentless. Every 3–6 months:
Check all bracket bolts for tightness (light snug with a hex key — don't over-torque)
Verify the spotlight bracket has no visible cracks or fatigue marks
Confirm the lights are still aimed correctly — vibration can gradually shift the aiming angle
Cable Connections
Inspect the cable running from spotlights to controller for any signs of chafing, cuts, or wear
Check connector points for corrosion or moisture ingress
Ensure all cables are still secured against the frame with zip ties or clips (loose cables can chafe against moving parts)
Controller Check
For RLC3 riders: Confirm the handlebar rotary knob still moves freely and clicks correctly. Wipe the knob face with a damp cloth to remove grime buildup.
For RLC CAN-X riders: No physical maintenance needed. If you notice any lag or non-response through the Wonder Wheel, see the RLC CAN-X Troubleshooting Guide.
Sealing Integrity
Inspect the lens-to-housing seal for any visible cracks, gaps, or damage. If you notice moisture inside the housing (visible fog or droplets on the inside of the lens), contact support — this indicates a sealing issue that needs attention.
5. Long-Term Storage
If you're storing your bike for a full season (winter layup, extended travel, or a break from riding), a few extra steps protect your Q5 Pro through the downtime.
Before Storage
Give the lens a full weekly clean (Section 2 above)
Ensure the lens and housing are completely dry
Wipe the housing with a light coat of automotive-safe protectant (optional but recommended for salt-air environments)
Check all mounting hardware one final time
During Storage
Keep the bike in a dry, temperature-controlled space if possible
If storing outdoors, use a breathable motorcycle cover — never a plastic tarp, which traps condensation against components
If your climate has extreme cold, no special precaution is needed for the Q5 Pro — the system is rated for the full range of motorcycle operating temperatures
After Storage — Waking Up Your System
Before your first ride back:
Rinse the lens to remove any settled dust
Test all functions with the bike running: on/off, dimming, color switching, sync features
Confirm mounting hardware is still tight after months of temperature cycling
6. Environment-Specific Care
Different riding conditions have different care rhythms. Adjust the schedule above based on where you spend most of your time.
Coastal & Salt-Air Environments
Salt is aggressive on all motorcycle hardware, not just Q5 Pro.
Rinse with fresh water after every ride, without exception
Consider a light protectant spray on the housing every 2–4 weeks
Inspect hardware more frequently — salt accelerates corrosion
Desert & High-Dust Environments
Dust is abrasive and can gradually etch lens surfaces if not managed.
Rinse before wiping — always
Consider carrying a spray bottle and microfiber cloth for on-the-go cleaning during long rides
Inspect the lens weekly for micro-scratching patterns
Adventure & Off-Road Use
Impact and debris exposure is higher off-road.
Inspect the lens after every off-road session — catch chips or cracks early
Verify mounting hardware more frequently (every 1–2 weeks during heavy off-road use)
Check cables carefully for chafing against frame components
Daily Urban Commuting
The least demanding environment for Q5 Pro care.
Weekly clean is usually sufficient
Watch for buildup of urban grime (brake dust, road film) on the lens
Seasonal checks as normal
7. Signs Something Needs Attention
Your Q5 Pro will normally give you no problems. But if you observe any of the following, act sooner rather than later:
Sign | What It Might Mean | What to Do |
Fog or moisture inside the housing | Compromised seal | Contact support |
Visible crack or chip in the lens | Impact damage | Stop using and contact support |
Aiming has shifted despite tight hardware | Bracket fatigue or mount stress | Inspect bracket, contact support if concerned |
Cable insulation shows wear or exposed wire | Chafing damage | Stop using, replace or repair before next ride |
Reduced brightness that doesn't recover | LED or driver issue | Contact support for diagnosis |
Unusual flicker or unresponsive controller | Electrical or firmware issue | See relevant Troubleshooting Guide |
Most of these are rare and easily addressed if caught early. The care habits above make catching them straightforward.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I re-aim the spotlights?
Only if you notice the beam pattern has shifted from where you originally set it. In most cases, once properly aimed and torqued, alignment stays put. Vibration can cause slow drift over years, especially on hard off-road bikes — check as part of your quarterly inspection.
Can I use my regular motorcycle wash soap on the Q5 Pro?
Most motorcycle-specific wash soaps (pH-neutral formulations) are safe. Avoid anything labeled as a degreaser, brake cleaner, or heavy-duty cleaner. When in doubt, use plain water — it handles 90% of routine cleaning perfectly.
Do I need to do anything special before a long trip?
A full weekly-style clean (Section 2), a hardware check, and a function test. This takes about 15 minutes and gives you confidence everything's ready for demanding use.
What if I don't ride for a few weeks — do I need to do anything?
Nothing special. If the bike is dry and stored properly, the Q5 Pro doesn't need any specific attention. Just do a quick rinse and function test before your first ride back.
The lens looks fine but the beam seems dimmer than I remember. What's happening?
Three possibilities: (1) actual buildup on the lens that a proper clean will resolve, (2) settings have changed on the controller, or (3) a genuine performance issue. Start with a thorough clean and a settings check. If brightness hasn't recovered, contact support for diagnosis.
Do I need to lubricate anything?
No. The Q5 Pro has no user-serviceable moving parts that require lubrication. The RLC3's rotary knob is designed to move freely without maintenance for the life of the product.
Can I open the housing to clean the inside of the lens?
No. The housing is factory-sealed to maintain IP68 rating. Opening it will void warranty and permanently compromise waterproofing. If you notice moisture inside the housing, contact support for repair or replacement options.
