Android Auto Audio Not Playing Through Bluetooth Headset on RiderNav Display

Step-by-step guide to fix Android Auto audio routing issues on RiderNav Display. Covers proper Bluetooth connection sequence for dual-channel headsets to ensure audio plays through your motorcycle communication system.

Updated over a week ago

Issue Description

When using Android Auto with RiderNav Display, audio continues to play on the smartphone instead of being routed through the Bluetooth headset (e.g., Sena, Cardo, etc.).

Symptoms

  • Android Auto connects successfully to RiderNav Display

  • Phone and display show active Android Auto connection

  • Audio (navigation, music, calls) plays from the phone speaker instead of the Bluetooth headset

  • The same phone and headset work correctly with other Android Auto devices

Solution: Correct Connection Sequence

To route audio properly through your Bluetooth headset when using Android Auto, follow this connection order:

Step 1: Connect your Bluetooth headset to the RiderNav Display

  • Go to RiderNav Display Settings > Bluetooth

  • Pair and connect your headset to the display

Step 2: Connect your Bluetooth headset to your smartphone

  • Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings

  • Pair and connect the same headset to your phone (dual connection)

Step 3: Establish Android Auto connection

  • Connect your smartphone to RiderNav Display via USB cable or wireless Android Auto

  • Launch Android Auto

Once all three devices are connected simultaneously, audio will route correctly through your Bluetooth headset.

Important Requirements

โš ๏ธ Your Bluetooth headset must support dual Bluetooth connections (multipoint pairing)

  • Not all Bluetooth headsets support connecting to two devices simultaneously

  • Common motorcycle communication systems that support this feature include: Sena (20S, 30K, 50S, SRL series), Cardo (PackTalk, Freecom series), and similar models

  • Check your headset's specifications or manual to confirm dual connection capability

Troubleshooting

If audio still doesn't route correctly after following the steps above:

  1. Verify dual connection support - Confirm your headset can connect to two devices at once

  2. Check connection status - Ensure the headset shows as "Connected" to both RiderNav Display and your phone

  3. Restart sequence - Disconnect all devices, restart RiderNav Display and phone, then reconnect in the correct order

  4. Update firmware - Check for OTA updates on RiderNav Display (Settings > System > Software Update)

  5. Reset Bluetooth - Clear all Bluetooth pairings on RiderNav Display and re-pair from scratch
